Ella hates Sturm
Since it’s “spring break” I’ve been practicing my bass more than usual, much to Ella’s chagrin.  When I practice bass, or anything for that matter, she tears out of “Shellman Studios Inc” (read: my spare bedroom) and gets as far away as she can.   The only instrument she was moderately willing to tolerate was the banjo, and I don’t really play that...

You think I’m not going to sing Stevie Wonder just because I’m in lab? Think again, friend.

If there is any lesson to be learned from a Sci-fi original movie, it’s that no one ever listens to scientists, but that they always should.

I
I was super excited yesterday when Amazon announce the Kindle 2.0. So excited in fact that I immediately tried to sell my Kindle 1.0 so that I could upgrade. I let Ryan borrow it overnight so that he could fall in love with it too and then buy it from me (hopefully at a price more than it’s worth). But as I handed it to him, I felt a pang of regret. How many hours have I spent staring...

I only have 5 friends, why do I need 8 social...
My mom has recently become completely smitten with social networking sites.  It started innocently enough with a Facebook account, then LinkedIn, then Facebook blogging and recently she’s moved into the realms of Twitter and Myspace.  And she’s dragging me down with her.  Now, I don’t give one shit about what people say on Twitter.  I don’t care about how your flight went,...

We're both Ziggy Stardusk
Today is Danielle’s birfday party, and I’m glad because this week felt like it would never end.  I got her these and a pair of these for her birthday, and we’re going to wear them tonight.   Danielle and Eric might have gone overboard on the supplies (18 liters of pop, about a gallon of juice, 2 gallons of hard liquor and 72 beers), but it’s better to be safe than sober I...

Movies!
I can’t recommend My Bloody Valentine 3D highly enough. It’s perfectly acted and the gore is amazing. As Sean Burns from the Philadelphia Weekly puts it, It’s paint- by-numbers, puritanical kill-the-horny-kids garbage, with the usual graphic impalements offering up a Freudian minefield of vengeful penetrations… but 3-D sure is a nifty way to polish a turd. Bingo Sean!...

An arbitrary number of things
Everybody is doing that “25 things” shit on Facebook. Even my mom did it. But I’m still holding out despite being “tagged” several times. I refuse to post it until I can find some snarky, jerkass way to write 25 things but in such a way as to make it obvious that I think it’s dumb and that I’m making fun of everyone. What? You think this level of...

Toot toots
Even though I claim to adamantly hate teaching, I’m taking on some intro stats tutees to pick up some extra ca$h money this semester.  It turns out that I actually like tutoring, or at least tutoring these girls.  They seem to be pretty hard workers and I feel like I’m actually helping them out.  Maybe they are future biostatisticians like me!
