All the women who independent!

I’m liking the conference pretty well so far. I guess my only real complaint is that it isn’t quite as computational or statistical as I would like. Today there was an amazing talk from a guy who is building a computational model of a bacterium which incorporates processes from everywhere in the cell. He’s my hero at the moment.

I’m pretty disappointed by the number of women scientists who were invited to speak at the plenary sessions. Out of the first 16 speakers, only one was a woman. Coming from a university that has plenty of women in biostatisics, bioinformatics and systems biology I find it a little curious that there aren’t more at the biggest conference in systems biology.
