Mucho Geneo, That’s Spanish for Lots’o’genes
I found this neat-o article today on MIT’s technology review. There is a new international consortium in town, and this one wants to sequence 1000 human genomes. My favorite part of the article was the part saying that “the volume of data—and the interpretation of those data—will pose a major challenge for leading experts in the fields of bioinformatics and statistical genetics.”
Read: I’ll be employed forever.
The article also reminded me of a conversation I recently had with Wilson about Moore’s law and how it seems to also apply to biotechnology and specifically genomics. It’s logical that Moore’s law would apply in this case since the biology and the computer science are inextricably tied at this point. I just hope we aren’t being too optimistic about the magnitude of growth and innovation we can expect.
