Knoxville and bust.
A month or so ago we [Lake Folk] started planning a trip to Knoxville, TN to see Abigail Washburn host a potluck and informal show. We wanted to go because the format was such that we could maybe rub elbows a little and, you know, maybe mention Lake Folk. Anyway, we did go last weekend only to find that the show had been canceled on account of the quarter inch of snow Knoxville got. Are you kidding me, Knoxville? You can’t drive because there is a quarter inch of snow?
Anyway, it’s not all Knoxville’s/Abigail’s fault. She did post it on her website before we even left Ann Arbor, however a quick email to the concert mailing list likely would have been appropriate as well, hmm?
We made the best of it and stopped in at a place called Patrick Sullivan’s, which sounds a lot like a shitty-lame-faux Irish bar, BUT, it is actually a very old saloon; a saloon complete with creepy guys sitting at the bar who turn and stare at you when you walk in (score!) and then follow you with their eyes until you sit down. We weren’t even packin’! The place had an amazing interior and you could see the area at the top where the ladies (whores) walked across and then the stairway leading up to the whorin’ rooms. We also stopped at the first KFC, which was amazing.
