Lake Folk: Operation Caffeine Crusade, etc.

Since Lake Folk doesn’t have a label, or a manager, or a publicist we often have to take marketing into our own hands.  This week I’ve begun what I like to call “Operation Caffeine Crusade.”  OCC involves bringing all my work into a local cafe, (not internet-radio-elitist Starbucks) buying a very expensive drink and then mentioning off-handedly that I’m in a local band and that we just finished our record, which was produced by a local celebrity (J.R. <3 <3) and that oh! I just happen to have it right here, you know, in case you want it to play for everyone in the cafe.  So far, I’ve done it at Espresso Royale on Main and Cafe Verde in Kerrytown.  Surprisingly, the baristas seem very happy to play our music and actually kind of excited that I asked.  They played the entire album at ER immediately after I handed it to them because they “hate their cds.”  It was actually a little off-putting for me at first because I felt like everyone was listening really closely and maybe even looking at me, but of course they were listening very closely to their iPods and if they were staring it was only to see why I was bugging out and staring at them.  The whole strategy of OCC depends on people listening at least a little and then asking “oh, who is this delightful band?”  Because you see, in my world most dialog starts with someone saying “oh!” or “funny you asked!”  So, I’m hoping people do that.  If not, I hope at least that the baristas like it.

I’ve also been rapidly emailing public radio stations who feature folk or acoustic music and getting a lot of replies asking us to mail in our cd.  WOOO!  Hopefully we’ll get on Michigan Radio, which has mondo listeners in Ann Arbor.  Mondo.

Also, the album is now on the INTERNET SUPER HIGHWAY!!  We’re up on cdbaby now which is a website that distributes music to all the other electronic distributers like iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody and shit.  So…if you have nothing else to do feel free to pop on over to http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/lakefolk and buy the record and leave a review!  But, if you’re from Michigan I recommend holding off until we get the physical packaging because it’s beautiful and the digital version doesn’t do it justice.  However, Ohioans should buy it post haste!

So, all in all I’d say we’ll be famous here pretty soon.  I won’t forget y’all when I’m at the top.
