My Mom has traced our ancestry in the United States back before the Revolutionary War. My family’s been in this country for as long as it’s been a country and fought in many battles that created and upheld the Union. It’s kind of cool when you can literally find Ol’ Glory in your blood. Thanks 23andme!

Oh hello there,

Welcome to my homepage. I am a PhD candidate in bioinformatics at the University of Michigan. I study metabolic syndrome and obesity in the laboratory of Dr. Charles Burant. My dissertation research includes the development of a whole-cell model of the pancreatic beta cell. Please see my c.v. or my talk for more information about my research and education.

Next to science, my passion is music. I sing, play upright bass and old-time fiddle music. I love American roots music, and particularly the music from the American Civil War.
